Lene Oddershede

The key expertise of L. Oddershede is at the vibrant interface between physics, biology and medicine where she has experience in establishing and leading major interdisciplinary research collaborations and research funding.

L. Oddershede is a full Professor of physics. She was trained as an experimental physicist and constructed the first optical manipulation facility in Scandinavia. She is expert on mechanics of living matter with focus on biomechanics of cancer cells, stem cells and developing organs. She is a pioneer in exploring and understanding the interaction between nanoparticles, light and living matter and has invented a novel cancer therapy based on plasmonic nanoparticles.

As Senior Vice President at Novo Nordisk Fonden, L. Oddershede has established a new grant awarding area for supporting research in the natural- and technical sciences with a focus on interdisciplinarity. She is responsible for formulating the associated strategy and for designing and executing both open competition and strategic awards. For instance, she has mediated substantial strategic support within the fields of Data Science, quantum technologies, nano-science, and mathematical modeling.
